Archivists are joining the initiative to buy back valuable documents
    Рosted 27 May 2021 12:17

Recently, the head of the Department of Citizens’ Appeals of the State Archives of Ivano-Frankivsk Region Andriy Smizhak bought at the auction “Violity” and presented the archive documents of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Polish Republic for his own money.

Among the documents donated were an inventory book (1802), which belonged to the peasant Stakh Savchak from the village of Mykulychyn (now the village of Yaremche City Council of Ivano-Frankivsk Region), a cheque from the entrepreneur Stefan Walter from Nadvirna (June12, 1913) and the announcement of the Congress of Invalids and Widows of Fallen Warriors in the Polish-Bolshevik War of 1920 – dated 1930.

The donated documents of the State Archives of the Ivano-Frankivsk Region are unique, since for the first time they mention unknown events and allow researchers of history to enrich and specify topics of socio-economic life of inhabitants of mountain regions of Galicia.

For reference. The initiative to buy back valuable documents was founded by the Head of the State Archival Service of Ukraine Anatolii Khromov, with the aim of replenishing the National Archival Fond of Ukraine and general access of a wide range of users to cultural values.
