    Рosted 13 May 2022 12:52

Anatolii Khromov in the interview published on the Public Administration Reform portal informed about the changes of the last two months, losses of archives due to hostilities, evacuation to the safe places, the possibility of attracting new people to work in the State Archival Service of Ukraine, along with the other archival institutions, prospects of document digitization and its accessibility online, in the martial law conditions.

“Changes were drastic”, stressed the Head of the State Archival Service of Ukraine. Since the beginning of the war, we have not processed the requests of citizens of the aggressor state and citizens of Belarus. Due to objective circumstances, a third of employees remained at their workplaces, the majority work remotely. Archival institutions are under the protection of the National Guard of Ukraine, because it is a matter of preserving our cultural heritage. State Archives of the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions which operated on the controlled territory of Ukraine during 2014–2022 are almost fully evacuated to other places.

“The practice of war has shown that there are no safe regions in Ukraine”, mentioned Anatolii Khromov.

We are glad that we have the support of international archival community. International Council on Archives voted to terminate membership in the organization of archival institutions from russia and belarus, digital copies of Ukrainian archives are stored on the cloud storages of foreign partners and we are still getting new letters offering help.

“In the two years that I’ve been the Head of the Archive Service, our digitization rate has increased by almost 500 percent, but digitization means nothing without the representation online. Digitized copies must be available online.”, — highlighted Anatolii Khromov.
