On April 19-20, 2023, Anatolii Khromov, Head of the State Archival Service of Ukraine, while on a business trip to Washington (USA), took part in consultations on the further development of bilateral cooperation with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. He also took part in national events on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the USA Holocaust Memorial Museum.
For the first time, since the beginning of cooperation with the Memorial Museum, which has been going on for almost 26 years, the Head of the State Archival Service of Ukraine had the opportunity to take part in celebratory events at the national level. On April 20 was the national Memorial Days ceremony with the participation of Holocaust survivors, members of Congress, officials of the White House, the diplomatic corps and public figures, which was held in the ceremonial hall of the US Capitol, as well as a forum dedicated to the international partnership of the Memorial Museum, which covers a diverse audience, and a gala reception on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of its creation.
The day before, on April 19, Anatolii Khromov visited the Memorial Museum and discussed further directions of cooperation, in particular, the implementation of new projects on the digitization of documents of the National Archival Fond of Ukraine, which are of interest to both parties, primarily in state archives located on the border with the aggressor state territories.
Reference: implementation of joint projects is carried out according to the Agreement of Cooperation between the parties, concluded on May 24, 2016. On June 29, 2022, documents about the Holocaust, digitized through almost 25 years by the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in the state archives of Ukraine, became available online for the first time. Thanks to the joint efforts of the State Archival Service of Ukraine, Ukrainian archivists and employees of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, equal access to these documents is ensured for users all over the world online, as well as their reliable preservation, which is especially important in the conditions of the russian federation’s war against Ukraine.
