On September 26, 2023, the international forum “Safe collections, safe heritage” officially opened in Krakow (Republic of Poland). Museums, libraries and archives under threat”.
Anatolii Khromov, the Head of the State Archival Service of Ukraine, at the first panel of the international forum, dedicated to Ukrainian archives, spoke about the coordinated work of Ukrainian archivists in the conditions of russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine, the help of international partners, the rapid pace of digitalization of documents of the National Archival Fond of Ukraine, and the implementation of a pilot project to introduce electronic archives. “We will do everything possible to preserve our history and cultural heritage for posterity,” he stressed.
On the same day, Anatolii Khromov had consultations with the General Director of the State Archives of Poland Paweł Pietrzyk. Both leaders discussed issues of further cooperation, in particular the implementation with the Baltic countries of the five-way project “Common Archival Heritage”, support by Polish partners of the Ukrainian nomination regarding the documentary memory of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine for inclusion in the Unesco Memory of the World International Register, further donor support by Polish archivists and volunteer organizations.
Yaroslav Faizulin, director of the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Kyiv, also spoke at the conference and informed about the archive’s experience in ensuring the preservation of National Archival Fond’s documents in wartime conditions.
