    Anatolii Khromov
    Head of the State Archival Service of Ukraine

    He was born on 5 November, 1985 in Bessarabia (Southern Odessa) in the city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi.

    From 2002 to 2007 he studied at the History Faculty of the Odessa National University named after I. I. Mechnikov.

    From 2007 to 2010 he was a postgraduate student of the mentioned University.

    In 2021 he completed the full course of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

    From 2008 to 2017 he worked in the State Archives of Odessa Region.

    He managed the processes of restoration, digitization of archival funds, played an important role in the representation of digitized copies of archival documents in free access for users. Thanks to the efforts of the archive staff, including Anatolii Khromov, the State Archives of Odessa Region became the most modern archive in Ukraine at that time. The State Archives of Odessa Region has almost completely scanned and published online metric books and has fully set out online descriptions of all the funds of the pre-revolutionary period.

    He is known for his public activity: he gives open lectures, speaks at professional conferences on digitalization of archives, development of archival affairs, genealogy in Odessa, Kyiv, Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Kamianets-Podilskyi, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv.

    Author and host of two seasons of scientific and educational series on Odessa radio: “Archival Discovery” (2015), “The Age of Odessa – Myths and Reality” (2016).

    In 2012, he defended his dissertation for a Candidate of Historical Sciences degree on the topic “Implementation by the Local Authorities of Southern Ukraine of the Policy of the Government of the Russian Empire Concerning the Cossacks in the XIX Century”. Scientific supervisor: well-known researcher of the history of the Cossacks, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Olena Bachynska.

    From 2013 to 2016 he lectured history in the Odessa National Medical University.

    In 2016, he was Production Director in Archival Information Systems.

    In 2017, he worked in the Scientific Division of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory. Co-author of scientific and exhibition projects of these Institute.

    In 2018, he was Deputy Director of the Branch State Archive of the Security Service of Ukraine.

    Research interests: history of the Cossacks of the XIX century, archival affairs, digitization and access to archives, local history, history of the Odessa city police.

    Author of more than 30 scientific and popular science articles, abstracts on the history of the Cossacks, the Odessa city police and archival affairs. He is a speaker at 30 national and international conferences, round tables and participants in internship programs, including in Italy, Finland, Georgia. Author of the monograph “South Ukrainian Cossacks of the XIX Century: Government Concepts, Projects and Implementations”.

    Participation in scientific societies:

    – since 2013 a member of the Cossacks History Division in Southern Ukraine of the Cossacks Research Institute of the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Ukraine;

    – since 2018 a member of the Editorial Board of the publishing editions “Poland and Ukraine in the 30’s–40’s of the XXth Century. Unknown Documents from Archives of Secret Services” initiated by the Security Service of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration of Poland and the Institute of National Remembrance – Commission for the Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation.

    – a member of the Editorial Board of the Scientific and practical journal “Archives of Ukraine”.
