    Documentary exhibition

    31 March, 2022

The State Archival Service of Ukraine presents 63 documents from 11 state archives

On August 24, 2021, Ukrainians throughout the world celebrate the Independence Day of Ukraine. It is commemorated to honour the adoption of the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine by the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR in 1991.

The actual history of Ukrainian Independence is very long and eventful. The Ukrainians have always been born free. For centuries, freedom has been the core value and motivation for the overwhelming desire for Independence. Faith, courage, wisdom, memory, persistence, conscience, spiritual values and love for a song are the defining features of the Ukrainian folk.

These features determined the segments of the online exhibition «Born Free» presenting historical documents of the National Archival Fund of Ukraine. The exhibition was prepared by the State Archival Service of Ukraine and state archives for the 30th anniversary of Ukrainian Independence.

The goal of the exhibition is to combine the past and the present; to show the important events in the life of the Ukrainian people starting from Kievan Rus, through the period of the Cossacks, the events of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921 up to the Maidan of Dignity; to immortalize the Ukrainians who have always been ready to defend their freedom, the Ukrainians who we are proud of.

The last section of the exhibition has a symbolic title – «You are the Ukrainian Independence». Its documents testify the national unity in the matter of state building.
